Housing Lawyer

Wigan – £40,000

Housing Litigation Solicitor
North West / Hybrid
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Are you a Housing Solicitor with at least 2 years’ post-qualification experience, looking to develop your career in a thriving and supportive legal team? This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a respected firm that specialises in housing law, where you’ll manage a diverse caseload, act on behalf of both private and public sector clients, and be involved in high-quality litigation work.

The Role:
As a key member of the housing litigation team, you’ll take ownership of your own caseload and provide expert advice and representation across a range of residential landlord and tenant disputes. Key responsibilities include:
  • Managing a caseload of defended possession claims, rent arrears, and housing litigation matters.
  • Advising on and handling contested proceedings, including counterclaims – with particular emphasis on small claims and fast-track litigation.
  • Acting in disputes involving unlawful eviction, disrepair, non-compliance with tenancy deposit rules, and tenant harassment.
  • Applying detailed knowledge of housing legislation, court procedures, and the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Disrepair.
  • Working closely with landlords, managing agents, and housing associations to deliver practical legal solutions.
  • Drafting pleadings, preparing witness statements, and attending court hearings where required.
  • Engaging in ongoing case strategy discussions with senior colleagues and contributing to team development.

What We’re Looking For:
  • A qualified Solicitor (2+ years PQE) with solid experience in housing litigation or landlord and tenant law.
  • Strong technical knowledge, particularly around possession proceedings, tenancy breaches, and housing disrepair claims.
  • Excellent drafting and advocacy skills, with confidence handling your own caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communicator with a client-centred approach and the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Organised, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines.
  • Experience advising housing associations or local authorities is desirable, though not essential.
