Best piece of advice
Since I left university and moved into the working world, my mother has always told me that ‘What’s meant for you will always arrive right on time’. It’s something I have held close to my heart within both my professional and personal life. I can’t control every aspect of my life and sometimes it’s okay if the right time is not now. But when it arrives, I will be exactly where I need to be and I will be able to grab that opportunity with both hands.
Most rewarding about working in Recruitment:
Recruitment is a difficult, pressure-filled job and you need to have a thick skin if you want to survive and thrive in the industry. There are so many times where it would be easier to just say that you don’t want to work a particular job because it’s too difficult or there are no candidates who would be a good fit, or just give up entirely. It’s in these moments where I remember how important my job actually is. It is incredibly rewarding when I have the opportunity to make a positive impact on people’s lives and I am able to help them find a job that aligns with their skills and passions. Seeing your candidate thrive in their role and knowing you helped a client find the right talent who makes a positive impact to the company, makes all the pressure worth it.
Most important skills for someone in my role
In my opinions, the most important skills for a recruiter are strong communication and interpersonal skills. You need to be able to build trust with both the candidate and the client and understand their needs to know how you can help them. Time management is important as you are often juggling multiple candidates and jobs at the same time and adaptability as you can’t always control the outcomes. Most importantly though, is empathy. You are working with people, and you need to understand their needs and experiences in order to create a strong and supportive working relationship.
