When most people think of their ideal role it is often perceived to be a permanent position. In many cases it will be. However, with flexible working on the rise more people are becoming receptive to the benefits of professional locum work and providing temporary cover. Many workers in the legal industry use locum or temp work as a vehicle to gain experience or to build up their skill sets especially after returning from break in law, getting into the sector following breaks in study, or finding immediate work after redundancy.
For several people though this is their dream position. The benefits can massively outweigh any negatives- namely, lucrative rates, exposure to specialist knowledge, learning different systems or models from different businesses, and flexibility. With short-term and long-term assignments on offer, locum work frees up time to help support other life commitments. These include; childcare cover, looking after a loved one, and studying.
