A timely review from resident wine connoisseur John Boylan - a Solicitor with Keoghs LLP.
"November. The month of Beaujolais Nouveau, traditionally released on the third Thursday of the month.
In recognition of that I have opted for one of the more well established wines of Beaujolais, Fleurie. This particular bottle is available at Aldi priced at £8.99.
Beaujolais is the most Southern wine growing region in Burgundy, although due to it's differing climate and the styles of wines it produces, it is often thought of as its own appellation.
Beaujolais produces light, dry red wines made from Gamay grapes and would usually be a refreshing red with low tannins and bright acidity. A nose of summer fruits are the hallmark of these wines and this Fleurie is no exception.
The soft tannins also support the palate of summer fruit which gives way to a savoury finish and a delicate touch of spice.
With it being a light red, Fleurie is a perfect match with lighter white meats. So if you're looking for an alternative Christmas Dinner wine, this might be for you. But where I think these lighter reds work best is in the heat of summer after being allowed to cool by just a few degrees in the fridge."
