Civil Liberties Solicitor 

Location: Manchester 

Job Type: Full-time, Hybrid Working (2-3 days in the office)

A prestigious law firm known for its dedication to civil liberties is looking to expand its team with an experienced Civil Liberties Solicitor. This role offers the chance to make a tangible impact by advocating for clients’ rights and upholding justice in complex and challenging cases.

The position will be based in Manchester with the flexibility of hybrid working.

Key Responsibilities
  • Client Representation: Represent clients in civil actions, from case inception through to resolution, including court representation.
  • Case Management: Handle a varied and complex caseload independently, ensuring thorough preparation and diligent follow-through.
  • Legal Research & Drafting: Conduct detailed legal research, draft compelling legal documents, and provide strategic case advice.
  • Compliance: Maintain an up-to-date understanding of key legislation, including the Police and Criminal Evidence Act and the Human Rights Act.
  • Mentorship: Guide and support junior lawyers, sharing knowledge and best practices in civil liberties law.
  • Continuous Development: Stay informed about legal developments, applying changes in legislation to ensure compliance and best practice in all cases.
Ideal Candidate
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience handling litigative cases, with a focus on civil liberties.
  • Expertise: Deep understanding of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, Human Rights Act, and the Coronial process.
  • Legal Aid Experience: Prior experience working with legal aid clients is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong advocacy, communication, and analytical skills; ability to work autonomously and manage a busy, diverse caseload.
  • Passion for Justice: A commitment to defending civil rights and a proven track record of upholding justice in legal proceedings.
