BPP Law School Event – August 2009

Douglas Scott were proud to sponsor the recent BPP Law School Fair in Manchester. The event itself was a chance for new graduates to speak to experienced recruiters on the challenges they could expect to face as new graduates, what their next steps could be in relation to their job search and also ask for generalist career advice such as CV tips and interview skills.

Although not specifically a candidate resourcing event, it presented us with an opportunity to speak to the newest entrants into the legal sector and offer them advice on how to begin their working career in the sector. The hope is that with the information and advice they gained, they will stand the best possible chance of securing a better position for themselves in the future.

Douglas Scott Director Kathryn Riley: “We were delighted to be part of this event. For us it was a chance to speak to and meet with new graduates and get a feel for what the candidates of the future would be like. For the graduates themselves, it gave them a chance to speak to experienced recruiters and ask all those questions that less experienced members of the workforce always have but do not know where to find the answers.”

“This year in particular it was important for us to be a part of the event, with the economy in such an uncertain period. With these new graduates coming up against more experienced candidates who may have significantly more work experience behind them and who may now be on the job market due to factors such as redundancy, it was important to give these new graduates access to the same sort of advice as those more experienced candidates have.”

Three Peaks Challenge – August 2009

In September 2009, Douglas Scott’s staff will be taking part in the Three Peaks’ Challenge.

The challenge is a test of physical endurance where participants climb the three highest mountain peaks in the UK within 24 hours in Snowdon, the English Lakes and Ben Nevis.

The team will be raising money by way of sponsorship, with all proceeds being donated to charity.

Douglas Scott Director Jon Nolan: “We have been looking for a team building activity for a while, and although there are  number of companies and events that we could have gone for, we decided that the Three Peaks challenge gave us the chance to involve the whole team on something a little more worthwhile than a simple day out at a racetrack or similar.”

“By donating proceeds to charity, we will be able to help those less fortunate whilst getting ourselves fit and having a fun day out as a team”.

Douglas Scott 5-a-side football team - August 2009

Following a number of challenges from local business football teams in Manchester, Douglas Scott formed a 5-a-side football team to take on other company teams at the hugely popular Ardwick Pits Power League venue in Manchester.

In their inaugural game, the team did themselves proud, running out comfortable winners against a team from the Royal Exchange Theatre. After opening up a healthy 7-0 lead, the team dropped off as a lack of fitness told, but through a combination of canny substitute usage and fear of losing a game that was so comfortably won early on, the team regrouped to win by more than a 10 goal margin.

Buoyed by this early success, Douglas Scott FC are now (foolishly??) accepting challenges from all local business teams in Manchester for 5-a-side games. Website Housekeeping & Marketing – July 2009

We have embarked on a summer re-branding project by updating our website, marketing collateral and related information in an effort to keep our image in tune with modern developments. As well as making our company website better optimised for search engines by employing modern SEO techniques, we have also re-written, moved and created a number of elements on the website to bring them up-to-date, deleted out of date information, and updated our marketing material and company stationary. We have also received specialist training from an ex-advertiser on making the best use of our advertising resources. This will attract a greater volume of relevant traffic to our website, online and press advertisements, allowing us to better service our client requirements.
