| The interview |
For some, particular those inexperienced at attending interviews, this stage can be the most stressful part of the process – working with Douglas Scott will ensure your approach and preparation is perfect.Complications can even begin before the interview, with candidate and client diaries sometimes difficult to co-ordinate. At Douglas Scott, we make sure we have all the information to hand before work on any assignment, and this includes client interview availability. With this crucial information to hand, and with many of our competitors failing to perform this essential task, arranging the interview is prevented from becoming an exercise in swapping messages and can be done in one phone call. You cannot be over prepared for an interview. Firms would certainly expect you to visit their website; Google is always a good tool for researching that bit extra. However as this kind of information is in the public domain, all candidates would be armed with this at interview. We can add value by briefing you more specifically, targeted towards the department and the role you are interested in, and the client you will be meeting. We will let you know who is interviewing you and where they fit into the firm. We will likely have met with them ourselves and can offer you an insight into their personality and how best to build a rapport with them at interview. Our access to the real decision makers enables us to match candidates to roles accurately, and we are not afraid to ask clients why previously successful applicants excelled and where others have fallen short to help you avoid the same pitfalls. A friend or colleague who works within the form you are interviewing at can be an invaluable asset if used in the right way. They can provide you with valuable information on the firm’s culture and working practices. Working with Douglas Scott for the formal aspects of the process however means any inaccuracies are avoided and will allow us to help you remain in control of the process by keeping all communications transparent. We have also found that our clients find it easier to provide full & frank interview feedback via a recruitment consultant then to an individual. Obtaining feedback may not be a comfortable experience for an individual applicant but it is an important part of the process. After any interview, we always hope to be managing you through the offer process. However on occasion, an offer of employment may not be forthcoming, and with the honest feedback we always obtain from clients, we are able provide advice on where you may have gone wrong with a view to correcting any flaws highlighted and ensuring you are successful next time.
